Phantom of the Opera On Broadway

Trip Advisor Pro Travel Lodger News
Phantom of the Opera is a Beloved Classic

Musical
The Phantom of the Opera is Andrew Lloyd Weber’s most beloved musical of all time. It is dark, dramatic, and chock full of some of the most recognizable songs of all time. Set at the world famous Paris Opera house in 1911, The Phantom of the Opera tells the story of a phantom recluse who lives in the opera house. He becomes enamored with the opera’s star singer, a young woman named Christine. He spends time training her to sing to her full potential. As audience members, we watch their story as it is progressed by songs like “Think of Me”, “Angel of Music/The Mirror”, and the shows namesake “Phantom of the Opera”. When Christine gains attention from other men, the Phantom is unhappy and shows her his displeasure through brooding, organ accompanied song.

Eventually, Christine discovers the Phantom’s secret lair and speaks to him honestly for the first time. He allows her to see his deformed face and explains to her that he just wants to be a normal person like everyone else. No one believes Christine when she tries to explain her story about the Phantom. Eventually, the Phantom and Raoul fight over Christine – each man is in love with her and wants her hand in marriage. She is forced to choose between the man she loves (Raoul) and the man who loves her and to whom she owes her success (The Phantom).

My 13 year old daughter and I saw this play in San Antonio and we were blown-away! It was truly "magical". We have since bought the movie(2004) and have fallen in love with it and Gerard Butler, he is the hottest "Phantom" a live and would like him to see him play broadway, as the Phantom....We have not been to New York to see the play there but will soon visit New York just to see the play and one day travel to England to see it there.

I'm typing this with the movie soundtrack playing in the background. I've never seen the Broadway musical but I absolutely LOVE the movie! Every single person involved did a magnificent job. Gerard Butler did absolutely great, especially in the last 30 minutes after he was unmasked. Most critics hated his singing, asking why the production team didn't choose a trained singer for the part. Either way, GB took several months of intense vocal training for the part, so give him some credit, haters!

Okay, rant over........Wonderful story, astounding songs, brimming over with talent (and amazing CGI in the movie). Ten million stars: That's my rating!!

I absolutely LOVE Phantom of the Opera! I've never seen the play, but I will soon!!! I'm typing this while listening to the London cast soundtrack in the background.

I have seen the movie and it was AMAZING!! Gerard Butler was fabulous and stunning in this production! I recommend this movie to everyone! I am 11 yrs old, and in Danville Girls Chorus and we go on tour every year and while we were on the bus we watched the movie! That was the second time I had seen it and it gets better and better each time you watch it!!

I am 11 yrs old and proud to admit that I suffer from totally-in-love-with-Phantom-of-the-Opera-itious!

Yes, saw this many times with several friends in the show. Patti Cohenour, Raissa Katone, Frank Mastrone and now Cristin Hubard. Amazing production and grand music. Sets were stupendous. An elephant that flies, a staicase that folds up, objects that come up from the floor. Celebrated the 100th performance on stage after the show, meeting Michael Crawford. What a treat.
