Things To Pack For Your Cruise Ship Break

When it comes to cruise holidays, the variety of on board features as well as destination attractions means it's not always easy to know what to take with you. You can be on the beach one minute, and then enjoying formal dancing the next. This is a helpful guide for what to pack.

When on the boat, you can dress as casual as you like during the day; comfort is the key after all, and you want to feel relaxed and cosy. T-shirts, shorts, comfortable trousers and flat shoes are a must for during the day. Swimwear should be packed too to make the most of onboard or shore water-based activities along with a beach towel to dry yourself off with. Towels and often towelling robes are provided in the cabin, so no need to pack those.

In the evenings you might want to consider some different options. Many cruise itineraries will include a formal dining event, usually with dancing, and guests will need to wear rather dressy outfits. You don't have to attend, but it's a fun experience, and makes a change from the days spent in your beach shorts.

On the non-dress-up evenings, you can still play dress up but jeans and more casual attire are welcomed in the bars and restaurants - it's entirely up to you.

Depending on the location of your cruise ship, you'll need to be savvy when packing for excursions. A European cruise tends to be more city or museum focused, so comfy clothing and shoes advisable. If hiking or more strenuous activities are on the agenda, be sure to pack sensible footwear and a rain coat. Tropical destinations tend to be more beach-based, so of course swimwear is necessary along with a cover-up. Add a few books, magazines and a few home comforts into the mix and you'll be ready for your trip in no time.
