The Many Wonders of a Disney Cruise

by Ericka Eagar

You may not be familiar yet with a Disney cruise as a vacation option. A lot of people still continue to think only of visiting theme parks as the best Disney vacation option. It's about time people discovered though that it is now possible to enjoy the quality, excitement and comfort of a Disney getaway on the high seas.

If you're thinking that this sounds too much like being on a pirate ship and your family is not cut out to enjoy such a rough trip, think again. This is, after all, a cruise, even though it does come with a Disney theme. It is suitable for all members of the family regardless of age and gender. There are also many activities on board that can be enjoyed by the whole family together.

If you've been looking for a chance to strengthen the bond between the members of your family, this can be accomplished at a Disney cruise. There are many activities that you can all enjoy together and that promote teamwork and interaction. There are Disney-themed deck games and shows and movies that the youngest and oldest members are bound to enjoy. There are even on-ship restaurants and diners where the family can cozily bond over a meal.

Company ships are also ready for age specific entertainment. This is a great option when both parents and children need short breaks from each other. Parents can easily have their fill of private moments at the ship's adults only restaurant or caf. Adults can then move on to night club entertainment or spa and pool pampering.

While parents are always concerned about the welfare of their toddlers and very young children, they could always use a break and relax separately. This is possible on a Disney cruise ship because the staff members are trained and well-equipped to deal with children of these ages. There are many activities at the Flounder's Reef Nursery where they can be supervised by the staff while parents take a much-needed rest. The older children can interact during some fun, educational activities at the Oceaneer's Lab.

Teenagers need not be bored on the Disney cruise ship because there are activities catered to their age group as well. The typical teenager may not want to spend too much time with his parents and younger siblings. There is a section for teens called Aloft wherein staff members host activities and parties that the teen can enjoy. Also, your teen can meet other people in his/her age group while being monitored by responsible adults who are also experts at wholesome teen entertainment.

By all appearances, Disney ships themselves are already centers of attraction. You'd want to be on a cruise just because of the ships. A cruise however wouldn't be what it is without the itinerary. Destinations for cruises are wonderfully varied. Depending on the schedule you pick, you could head off to such places as the Panama Canal, Europe, Alaska and the Caribbean.

The Bahamas is a special port of call for all Disney cruise ships. This is because it holds Disney's own island called Castaway Cay. You can opt to enjoy all the entertainment options in Nassau before soaking up the sun in the luxurious Castaway Cay. Here, the Disney vacation experience continues. There are many activities on the island to keep you busy, and they are all Disney-themed.

When you've had the rounds of theme parks, a Disney cruise may be in order. There's no describing how enthralling it really is. You just have to find out for yourself. Go on board and rediscover both your family and the high seas.
