Vacations To Go Cruise Newsletter

Dear Mr. Zizou,

I'm sending my newsletter a little early this week because I wanted to let you know that we have arranged several terrific offers from three different cruise lines, all of which must be booked in the next few days.

These promotions are for new bookings only, subject to availability and other restrictions may apply.

First, for two days only -- May 3 and 4 -- Royal Caribbean is offering our customers shipboard credits of $50 to $200 per cabin, depending on the length of the cruise, plus reduced deposits on every cruise and cruise tour departing on or after August 1, 2011, on every ship in their fleet. Shipboard credits can be used to pay for almost anything not included in the cost of the cruise, including alcoholic beverages, boutique items, spa treatments and shore excursions. Click here for dates and prices, choose your cruise and call us Tuesday or Wednesday to book.

Kids will sail FREE with Norwegian Cruise Lines on a variety of sailings departing between September and December 2011. Many sailings are also eligible for shipboard credits of $50 to $150 per cabin. Book between May 1 and May 7, click here for dates and prices.

Finally, Celebrity is offering Vacations To Go customers exclusive shipboard credits of $100 to $200 per stateroom on select Alaska cruise tours and $200 to $325 per stateroom on most 2011 Europe cruises. Alaska cruise tours must be booked between May 2 and May 8 and Europe cruises must be booked by May 31 to be eligible. Click here for dates and prices.

I've written before about the International Service Program at my alma mater, Wake Forest University, which organizes groups of Wake Forest students to travel to impoverished areas of the world to help those in need. Students live for 2-3 weeks in spartan conditions and work in orphanages, centers for disabled children, schools or community centers, depending on the site and the mission.

Students are required to pay their own travel expenses and the Vacations To Go Grant was established to help those who otherwise would not be able to afford to go. Vacations To Go also sponsors a photojournalism project associated with each service trip.

The latest two groups of students to benefit from the VTG Grant recently traveled to India and Vietnam.

In India, fourteen students spent time in Kolkata, formerly Calcutta and also known as the City of Joy. Through the Missionaries of Charity organization founded by Mother Theresa, the students were split into male and female teams, serving in the men's and women's wings of a home for the mentally disabled. They assisted with tasks such as laundry, meal service and kitchen duties.

A group of fifteen students traveled to Hieu Phung, Vietnam, a rural village in the Mekong River Delta. There, they worked with students from Vietnam's Can Tho University to renovate the third-grade classrooms of the Hieu Phung Primary School. They also delivered book bags full of school supplies and toys to each of the third-grade students at the school.

As part of our photojournalism project, a story covering the India trip was written by Wake Forest student/volunteer W. Woodruff Hales and published in the May/June issue of Vacations magazine. To see the article, click here.

The story covering the Vietnam trip was written by Wake Forest student/volunteer Evan Leadem and is published in the Summer issue of Travel 50 & Beyond magazine. To see the article, click here.

Originally founded as the Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company in 1837, P&O Cruises literally created the concept of leisure cruising in 1904 and has been the most popular cruise line in Britain since that time.

Vacations To Go is proud to be P&O's exclusive representative in the United States, Canada and Central America.

To see itineraries and discounts for P&O Cruises' seven ships that cruise the Mediterranean, Caribbean, South America, Scandinavia, Asia, Australia and other destinations, click here.

P&O Cruises is owned by Carnival Corporation & plc, the world's largest cruise company. Carnival Corp operates 10 cruise brands -- a fleet of 98 ships with more than 200,000 berths -- with a further 10 ships to be delivered by May 2014.

Princess Cruises has announced their return to Egypt after what turned out to be a short hiatus. Due to concerns over the political unrest that occurred in Egypt earlier this year, Princess, along with most other cruise lines, altered itineraries that had been scheduled to visit ports in Egypt between May and November.

According to Princess' Executive Vice President Jan Swartz, "The situation in Egypt has calmed considerably since wide-spread protests earlier this year, and the tourist areas aren't currently being affected, so we're pleased to tell passengers they can once again plan to experience this country's iconic pyramids and other ancient wonders."

The line's return to Egypt will take place on May 15, when the Pacific Princess pulls into Port Said.
