Oasis of the Seas - Some Interesting Facts

by Henry Bennett

Many people enjoy taking holiday trips on cruise liners. One of the finest cruise ships in the Royal Caribbean line of ships is the Oasis of the Seas, and there are some very interesting facts surrounding this fine city on the sea.

As with any other ship that sets sail for the first time, the Oasis of the Seas was christened on its first voyage. However, not many ships are christened by more than one of two people. The Oasis was christened by seven famous women, and they represented the different neighbourhoods that make up the on board city. These ladies are regarded as godmothers of the ship.

The seven different neighbourhoods that make up the Oasis of the Seas are the Boardwalk, Vitality at Sea Spa and Fitness Centre, Royal Promenade, Entertainment Place, Central Park, Youth Zone, and Pool and Sports Zone. As you can tell, it sounds a lot like any other neighbourhood, and it is designed to give those who spend their time on the ship an enjoyable and varied time on board.

Central Park on board the Oasis is comprised of 12,000 plants and it takes full time horticulturists to take care of them properly, and you can also take a tour during your adventure on board the ship with one of these horticulturists as your guide. They are able to give some good information about the many plants that they help to take care of.

December 1, 2009 was the day that Oasis of the Sea made her maiden voyage. Pop singer Rhianna was a special guest for this first voyage that got underway at the launching ceremony. This voyage lasted for four days, and docked at various ports of call along the way. Included in those ports were Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Port Everglades. She continues to serve the Royal Caribbean fleet and will do so for years to come.

There are 42 elevators aboard the Oasis of the Sea serving the passengers as they travel between their cabins and other places like restaurants on the ship. Along with the elevators, there are 24 restaurants as well so that there are choices for all the passengers. Those passengers can number as many as 5,400 at any given time, and 2,165 crew members.

When it is time to set up your next cruise, you may want to give Oasis of the Sea a try. With these few facts about this amazing ship in hand you may decide to make your own list as you tour your way around the ship. This would actually be a good activity for parents to give to their children to help keep them busy.

As one of the newest ships in the Royal Caribbean line, this one has some of the finest cabins you will find. You will find that there are luxury staterooms that are two story in nature and are equipped with a private balcony which will allow for an awesome ocean view at any time day or night.
