New Or Used Boat - Which Is A Better Option?

by Gene Fink

Boats, like cars, have a few pros and cons whether they're new or used. There may be hundreds of used boats available, but still you should look at the newer ones first.

Finding new boats With new boats, you'll know each and every piece of history with the boat and the motor. You don't have to focus on repairing or restoring your new boat because if something goes wrong, you'll have a warranty to fall back on. You can immediately get out in the water because of this.

Usually, you can get a better interest rate when you finance a new boat. If you shop for a new boat, then you'll get a better idea of the type of boat that's best for you and your family. Just like a car, the depreciation value is the highest in the first season of use.

Facts about used boats Those with tight budgets and don't know what they want to do with the boat should opt for used boats. Even though you may be planning to buy a new boat, it's always a good idea to shop new ones first.

To help you get an idea of what you want and see the boats that are out there, try to attend boat shows. You can look at the many used boats that are there, then narrow your list down as to what type of used boat you prefer.

You may be planning to visit one of the local boat dealerships, shop online, or through a newspaper but before you make a purchase, make sure you get a marine survey of the boat. It's expensive but it's worth it.

Quite difficult to detect with used boats are structural defects or mechanical problems. Similar to a home inspection is a marine survey because every inch of the boat will be inspected by the surveyor including the engine, electrical system, and steering wheel.

Depending on the results you receive, you can use the results to get a lower price, or just stop the deal altogether if the results are that bad. The marine survey is worth it because it's the smartest way to buy a used boat as it saves you money, time, and headaches.
