Thailand is known for many things. When people hear about Thailand, the first things that come to their minds are wonderful beaches, rich culture, historical sites, spicy foods and Thai massage.
Thai Massage is also known as Nuad Phaen Boran which means “traditional massage” or “ancient massage”. It is also called traditional Thai massage, Thai Classical Massage, Ancient Siamese Bodywork, Thai Bodywork, Passive Yoga, Buntautuk style, Assisted Yoga, or Thai Yoga Massage. It is believed that Thai Massage was developed more than 2,500 years ago in India by Buddha’s personal physician Jivaka Kumar Bhaccha. This type of massage came with Buddhist religion, as it reached Thailand. It was further enhanced by its infusion with Chinese medicine.
Thai Massage is based on the theory that after the air was inhaled into the lungs, it will then travel along 72,000 vessels or pathways throughout the body. The massage therapists manipulate the major pathways by pressing specific points along it. The pathway starts at the navel and spreads all throughout the body. Thai massage use stretches and breathing practices like in yoga to stimulate the flow of air.
Thai Massage therapy is quite unique compared to other types of massages. Patients can also choose to wear comfortable and loose pants rather than getting totally naked. It does not use massage oils. It uses different yoga stretches and postures along with thumbing and palming of specific points along the energy lines of the body. It also uses the practitioner’s legs to help counterbalance and position the patient’s body in various stretches. The patient will effortlessly resemble different yoga postures thru a set of choreographic movements with the help of the massage practitioner. This is the reason why others also call it the “lazy man’s yoga”.
Thai Massage Therapy has many health benefits. It has a holistic approach of therapy. It relieves tension. It promotes proper posture. It improves flexibility and increases your range of movements. It promotes good sleep. It improves vitality. It makes you feel well and lifts your mood. It promotes body awareness. It improves your physical and mental health.
Thai Massage is a branch of Traditional Thai Medicine (TTM) which is regulated by Thai government. It was considered as medical discipline that is used for treating various ailments. It is also widely used by sports professionals to achieve their maximum performance. The practice of Thai massage has already spread around world.
