Chiang Dao is a relatively peaceful countryside surrounded by mountains. Its rich in nature and the weather is below 30 degrees in the day and as low as 7 degrees in the night depending on season. The town is rather laid back. Food and massage (70 baht per hour) is cheaper than neighbouring Chiangmai.

For tourists, there is nothing much to buy except than indulging oneself into the market scene. Its an eye opener for those who are so exposed to the environment of metropolitan cities... Read more!

Chiang Dao - A very authentic place surrounded with Hilltribes, with friendly people, stunning mountain views (particularly from Chiang Dao Cave Village), nice walks up and around the Doi Chiang Dao National Park...Markets ? Morning market 6.30 in Chiang Dao Town: quite interesting, but not hugely special, a few bugs, pigs heads, etc.
Tuesday Market : Well worth a visit. Hilltribes from the surrounding mountains come down to sell and buy their wares. Not intended for tourists, and all the more interesting because of it... Read more!

From Bangkok Post - Getting close to nature...exploring Chiang Dao's town centre can be quite an educational experience, especially for big city folks. The town has charming old style wooden shops flanking the main highway.and it is one of the few remaining towns in Thailand without a Seven Eleven store. On Tuesdays people from surrounding areas, including hilltribe people gather in Chiang Dao at a makeshift market to display and sell their wares.
